"There cannot be true democracy unless women are given the opportunity to take responsibility for their own lives. There cannot be true democracy unless all citizens are able to participate fully in the lives of their country. -Hillary Rodham Clinton
The Social Importance
It is imperative that women get involved in politics because laws and policy that are targeted toward women should not be created from the thoughts and opinions of men, people who will not be effected. As we all witnessed in the 2012 Presidential Election, women's issues was a huge debate issue (and in my opinion, one of the main factors that cost Governor Romney the election) that stole the spotlight from other important issues. Women have a come too far, fighting for equal rights, fighting for a voice in America to be sent back to a time when choices were made for them by the men in their lives and when they were to be seen and not heard. Women must not stand by waiting for the government to make changes in their favor but rather stand up let their concerns be heard and demand that changes be made. Having more women in positions of power such as a Congresswoman should encourage women to get out and vote and participate more in the political process because in our absence, men assume they can make those decisions for us. Imagine where the world would be without the input of women...a mess.
